The Russian army continues its invasion of Ukraine. Now there should be negotiations. In a special session of the Bundestag, Chancellor Scholz announced more money for the Bundeswehr. The current events at a glance.
The office of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy announced on Sunday that peace talks with Russia had been approved. A Russian and a Ukrainian delegation would meet at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. Nevertheless, there were again battles in various places in Ukraine – for example in Kiev and Kharkiv.
Other European countries announced arms deliveries to Ukraine. The EU also wants to give half a billion euros for weapons and equipment. The 27 member states agreed on this – it is the first time that the European Union has financed weapons for a country under attack.
Chancellor Scholz condemned in a government statement the Russian attack and explained that the Bundeswehr received, among other things an additional 100 billion euros for better equipment. In order to make Germany more independent of Russian gas, the chancellor announced the construction of liquefied natural gas terminals in Brunsbüttel and Wilhelmshaven on.

Putin: Deterrent forces on alert
Russia’s President Putin said he did put his country’s deterrent forces on alert, including its nuclear forces. The reasons for this are the “aggressive behavior of NATO” and the economic sanctions against Russia. The European Union agreed to close its entire airspace to Russian planes. German airspace is already blocked.
The United Nations announced that around 370,000 people had fled Ukraine so far. EU Interior Commissioner Johansson said she expects several million refugees who want to come to the EU.
According to the police, more than 100,000 people gathered at a peace demonstration in Berlin on Sunday. There were also demos again in northern Germany, for example in Lower Saxony and in Hamburg.
