Blues supporter friends, after Mudryk 2031, were you dreaming of a Bellingham 2042 flocked presentation shirt next summer? A priori, this umpteenth madness on the side of Chelsea should not take place, so much UEFA hallucinates as much as us on the winter mercato of crazy American Todd Boehly. In addition to the record transfer amounts (almost 500 million euros spent since last summer), it is the duration of the contracts of these recruits that have surprised.
In order to circumvent what remains of financial fair play by spreading out the payment of compensation, Chelsea have in particular hired David Datro Fofana (Molde, until June 2029) Benoît Badiashile (Monaco, until June 2030), Noni Madueke (PSV, until June 2030) and therefore even Shakhtar’s Ukrainian Mykhailo Mudryk, the longest contract in history with this eight-and-a-half-year lease.
No more contracts longer than five years
Several Premier League clubs have denounced the unprecedented duration of these contracts, and according to the DailyMail, UEFA will react to the Chelsea madness by adjusting a point of transfer regulations. The European entity will indeed reduce for good the duration of the maximum contract to five years, which already appears in the texts, but with certain possible exceptions, which allowed Todd Boehly to rush into the breach.
This bewildering winter transfer window of the Blues (all the same still 10th in PL) will therefore (a priori) no longer be able to reproduce. But don’t worry, the London club will still slap us a dozen players at more than 30 million euros next summer.
