Typhoon Saola swept over the Chinese metropolis of Hong Kong on Saturday with wind speeds of around 200 kilometers per hour. It left a trail of devastation and flooding in its wake. At least one person was killed and dozens more injured, Hong Kong authorities said. No precise information was initially available about the extent of the property damage. The typhoon continues to move along the southern Chinese coast. Authorities have canceled hundreds of flights in Guangdong province. Offices, schools and other public facilities were already closed in many places on Friday. Saola is among the strongest typhoons to hit southern China’s coastal areas in the past 70 years.
