Two young people aged 18 and 15 indicted for “coordinated attack plans”

Friday, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) announced that two young people aged 18 and 15 were indicted on Sunday. They are both suspected of “short-term coordinated attack plans”. Originally from the Grand-Est and Occitanie regions and “clearly committed to jihadist ideology”, they are being prosecuted for terrorist criminal conspiracy with a view to preparing crimes against people.

Still according to the Pnat, the two indicted “exchanged on social networks for several weeks” with a view to preparing their project. The 18-year-old young man was placed in pre-trial detention while the 15-year-old was placed under judicial supervision, the public prosecutor said.

A new generation of jihadists

“The investigations, entrusted to the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI), are continuing as part of the judicial information on these projects and in particular on the respective involvement of the people indicted,” added the prosecution.

These two arrests come a few weeks after Jean-François Ricard, retired anti-terrorism prosecutor, spoke in an interview with AFP of the appearance of a “new generation” alongside “veterans of jihad”. He thus cited “very young” adults, even minors, who were “involved in violent action projects” and “connected above all through networks in digital form”.
