Two years later, Anas continues his rehabilitation and ensures to live “a happy life”

On November 8, 2019, in a desperate gesture, Anas Kournif set himself on fire in front of a Crous de Lyon building in order to denounce student precariousness. After spending five months in a coma, the young man with third degree burns on 75% of his body, began a long rehabilitation. Two years later, he gives his news on social networks on the occasion of what he calls his “birthday”.

“I live a happy life,” he says, explaining that he began his first plastic surgery on Monday. “This is the start of reconstruction. I was put on skin expanders, balloons that are gradually inflated and which serve to extend the area of hair and healthy skin to, in the future, compensate for the imperfections of the first treatment on the face ”, details he, specifying having lost “about a third of his intestine”.

In the third year of a bachelor’s degree in political science

The student relishes the fact of finding “super soft skin”: “it’s nice to gradually return to a normalized body”. Despite her numerous hospitalizations and operations, Anas was able to continue her university studies and is currently in the third year of a bachelor’s degree in political science at Lyon 2.

The young man also explains having started on Twitch, where he speaks of “politics” on “a background of games and videos”. He is also planning to devote a cycle of programs on burns during which he would invite “all staff”, from stretcher bearers to surgeons, including ASH and rehabilitators.

“I am less active, it is a fact, but it is more linked to a gradual disconnection from the field than to something else, distancing obliges”, he concludes.
