Two supporters of Sheffield Wednesday football club have mocked a boy who died of cancer and has become a sort of mascot for opponents AFC Sunderland. Now the police are investigating charges of violating public decency.

In England it has Police arrested two men who allegedly made fun of the death of a little boy to provoke Sunderland fans at the second division football match between Sheffield Wednesday and AFC Sunderland. South Yorkshire Police said the two men, aged 27 and 31, were suspected of insulting public decency.

Bradley Lowery was an ardent Sunderland fan

The men had already been taken into custody on Saturday, and photos of the alleged provocation had previously circulated on the Internet. It showed one of the two Sheffield fans holding up a photo of Bradley Lowery while they both laughed during last Friday’s game. Lowery was an ardent Sunderland fan who became something of a mascot for the club during his battle with a rare cancer. He died in 2017 at the age of six.

A Sheffield Wednesday spokesman condemned the two men’s alleged behavior and said they would support the investigation. “We can only apologize for the distress this has undoubtedly caused to Bradley’s family and friends,” it said. Sheffield lost the home game against Sunderland 0-3.
