  • The French are among the worst Europeans at English.
  • Two northerner brothers have developed a platform to learn English while having fun.
  • For this, they use in particular a very large catalog of Anglo-Saxon films.

But where is Brian? We no longer even count the studies showing that the French are at odds in English. A Ipsos survey for Forbes showed, in 2019, that 7 out of 10 French people consider themselves bad both in writing and orally in the language of Shakespeare. A deplorable level recognized as a professional obstacle by most of the respondents, who are ready to use their training account to remedy it. This is exactly where two Northerners come in,
the Marmignon brothers, with a method that has absolutely nothing academic about it.

The Marmignon brothers, in english please, have traveled quite a bit between their native village of Berlaimont, near Maubeuge, Hollywood and Silicon Valley, in the States. Studies in Paris and internships in the world of cinema. It was at this time that they became aware of a terrible paradox: “France is the most cinephile country in Europe, especially of American productions and, at the same time, the French are among the most null in English ”, deplores Corentin Marmignon.

“Learn without even realizing it”

The solution came to them quite naturally: “We had to put an end to stupidly repeating recordings like ‘where is Brian’ and make teaching English fun. To learn without even realizing it, ”continues the co-founder of Marmignon brothers. The idea being to use Anglo-Saxon cinema in the original version with English subtitles, as a vehicle for the language.

Thanks to their contacts in Hollywood, the Northerners were able to obtain the rights for training purposes to productions from the biggest studios: Paramount, Sony Pictures, NBC Universal… “We have all their catalogs, including for the films only a few months later. their theatrical release ”, assures Corentin. Their training organization also offers a whole catalog of educational content allowing to work on a precise vocabulary according to the type of profession exercised or sought.

For schools, universities, communities and individuals

Once the student’s level has been determined thanks to a test, he just has to watch content and then answer questions or perform challenges. He thus earns points that allow him to know his progress and level up. “Learning is fun and much easier that way,” promises Corentin.

Their solution, the Marmignon brothers have already succeeded in placing in several large schools or universities. Also within communities, in particular to promote the return to employment of citizens of municipalities such as Fourmies or Hautmont. The application is now available for individuals who wish to improve their English in general culture at the price of 11.99 euros per month. Soon, the Northerners’ platform will offer other languages: “My ultimate dream is to return to the United States to teach them French with the ” Dinner of cons’ ‘”, jokes Corentin Marmignon.
