Two deaths, in Brittany and Occitania, in “possible link” with abnormal temperatures

Two people have died in recent days in France at work in accidents “possible link” with the heat wave that has hit the country, health authorities announced on Wednesday.

“Two fatal work accidents possibly linked to exposure to heat have been notified to Public Health France” by the Labor Inspectorate, the public health agency said in a statement.

An Occitania and Brittany

The first death took place in Occitania at the start of the heat wave, around July 12, and the second in Brittany when this region was placed on red alert, a few days later.

Public Health France did not give more details on the nature of these deaths, their precise date or the identity of the victims.

Like other European countries, France has been marked in recent days by a violent episode of heat wave during which many temperature records have been broken.

Several deaths in Europe

These records were recorded in particular in regions usually spared by heat waves, the frequency of which has increased in recent years as a result of global warming.

This is for example the case of Brittany, hit by major fires, and where one of the two deaths at work possibly linked to high heat has therefore been reported.

If it is still necessary to confirm the existence of a direct link between the heat wave and these deaths, their announcement comes in a European context marked by several deaths of workers victims of extreme temperatures.
