The affair, which is shaking up the neurosurgery department, dates back to the fall of 2022. At the time, the management of the CHU had conducted an administrative investigation due to the climate of tension which reigned in the department. Following this investigation, a report was sent to the prosecutor at the end of March against a doctor, accused by six interns in his department of moral harassment at work and sexual harassment.
A second professor of medicine, who worked in the same department, is also in the sights of justice. On October 18, the national inter-union association of interns filed a complaint against the two professors “for acts which were allegedly committed to the detriment of 14 interns over an undetermined period and likely to characterize the offense of moral harassment”, specifies the Rennes prosecutor’s office, which entrusted the investigation to the city’s departmental security.
Only urgent interventions are covered
In the midst of the storm, the management of the CHU refuses to comment on the current investigation, only mentioning in a press release “a context of interpersonal conflicts between doctors which gave rise to various complaints between practitioners”. Faced with numerous departures and facing “strong growth in activity”, the hospital was forced to reduce activity within its neurosurgery department. “The senior medical staff does not allow, to date, to continue all surgical activities,” specifies the management press release.
In this context, all the activity of the service has been refocused “on non-transferable interventions relating to emergency and hyperspeciality. » All interns who were due to start an internship at the beginning of November were also redirected to other services.
