The short message service Twitter was not available via app or browser for about three quarters of an hour. The background to the disruption is still unclear.

Breakdown on Twitter: The short message service was not available in the USA and Europe for about three quarters of an hour on Thursday. The “Downdetector” page showed that users in Europe from around 2 p.m. and in the USA from around 8 a.m. could not access the service. Three quarters of an hour later, the breakdown was apparently fixed.

Twitter initially did not respond to inquiries about the glitch. Minor glitches are common in online networks, but three quarters of an hour is unusual.

Twitter quarrels with Elon Musk

Twitter is in the middle of a heated argument with multi-billionaire Elon Musk. The Tesla founder scrapped his plan to acquire Twitter for $44 billion last week. Twitter sued Musk. A court will now have to decide whether or not Musk can withdraw from the agreement. The agreement between Musk and Twitter stipulates a penalty of up to $1 billion if either party pulls out. A long and costly judicial battle is now expected.
