turnout stands at 26.41% at noon, up nearly a point from the first round

“People are fed up, but it’s also the fault of the socialos”, believes Patrice, who voted white in Sarthe

On the sidewalk next to the polling station in Brûlon (Sarthe), his arms covered with tattoos and his German shepherd at his feet, Patrick Herreman sighs, drawing on his cigarette. This time, this 62-year-old SNCF retiree, voter of Mélenchon, did not want to block. He voted blank. The important scores of the National Rally in his commune despair him: “We have no insecurity, no immigration problem”, he notes. Even in Allonnes, a town in the suburbs of Le Mans where he grew up, led by a communist mayor since 1977, the far right took the lead in the first round. A first in this town historically marked by the protest vote. “People are fed up, it’s a shame that they come to these votes, but it’s also the socialos’ fault for not having been able to address the working classes”, believes Patrice, grandson of an Algerian grandfather.

This time, Gaetan Godemer, 30, decided to vote; this is his first presidential election. Because he is now working – young farmer in organic poultry, “500 euros per month” –, that he has a nine-month-old child, that he has bought a house and that he wonders about the future. He chose Marine Le Pen, as in the first round. “The only thing that bothers me is his last name.he said, his three wands under his arm and a chainsaw-branded cap shoved over his head. I don’t agree with her on everything, on immigration she goes too far, but above all I want to fire Macron. » Gaëtan has not really looked at Marine Le Pen’s program but understands that she offers more aid than Macron for farmers and “less aid for those who do not work”. He must spin, “a cow to calve”.

Storekeeper delivery at La Flèche, Jeremy Guyard, 28, also gave his voice to Marine Le Pen, as in 2017. “Too much social assistance for those who do not workhe also finds. We work, we struggle with the credits of the house, the car, the prices which increase, that has to change. » Again this feeling that “Macron always hits the same ones, while Le Pen speaks to the little ones, to the forgotten”.
