Lovers of unusual cars are expected again in the Ruhr area. In addition to the classic topics such as increased performance and customization, the “Essen Motor Show” is also about electromobility.

Despite Corona, the nine-day car tuning fair “Essen Motor Show” opens. Around 400 exhibitors want to present vehicles and accessories in eight halls by December 5th, as Messe Essen reported on Friday.

The 3G rule and a mask requirement apply to visitors. “In the current situation, 100,000 visitors would be a great success,” said a spokesman. In 2019, more than 300,000 people came. In 2020 the fair was canceled due to Corona.

“The Essen Motor Show shows what relevance the car has and will continue to have in the future,” said the trade fair managing director Oliver P. Kuhrt. “Cars don’t just get us from A to B – they should be fun and inspire their drivers, regardless of the drive.”

Race in the virtual cockpit

The tuning of gasoline-powered vehicles is in the foreground at the fair. However, the interest in sustainably powered vehicles is growing, it said. Among other things, a car sharing service provider will be presenting current series models that are electrically, hybrid or hydrogen-powered. The tuning of well-known electric vehicle brands is also an issue.

In a motorsport simulation, visitors can race in a virtual cockpit. In a special show “World of Motorsport” racing and sports cars from the past and present are shown. Not only commercial providers are exhibiting: under the motto “tuningXperience”, around 100 private owners will be showing their tuned vehicles in a hall.
