Harald Hoffmann, 53, has headed the WHO reference laboratory for tuberculosis on the premises of the Asklepios Clinic in Gauting since 2004. In this function, the specialist in microbiology, virology and infection epidemiology is involved in the global containment of tuberculosis, which has recently suffered setbacks. Nevertheless, he remains confident and emphasizes in the conversation: “I’m an optimist”.
