A solution is emerging in the city council for TSV 1860 Munich’s concerns about the rent for the Grünwalder stadium – however, it should still be significantly more expensive for the third division soccer team compared to the current situation. The city wants to abolish the mandatory MVV combined ticket, which previously allowed Löwen fans to travel to and from the venue on match days. The argument is that many fans will probably use the new Deutschlandticket, which will start in May. “The 49-euro ticket could offer an opportunity to do justice to the traffic concept for the stadium even without a combination ticket,” says sports mayor Verena Dietl (SPD). “I have given the club the prospect of examining this possibility.”
There is a broad majority in favor of this compromise, which is to be brought to the plenary session of the city council. The committee is due to decide on the new rental conditions next Wednesday.
The association has been pushing for a lower fee for a long time. Mayor Dietl and sports consultant Florian Kraus (Greens) recently declared that they could not comply with this request and that the lions would even have to do something better in the future. In a letter to the city representatives, they calculated that they were expecting total stadium costs to increase by more than 50 percent for the coming season, i.e. by a good half a million euros. In addition, there would be a one-time additional payment of 150,000 euros for additional costs.
For years, TSV 1860 has considered it unfair that they have to accept the MVV combined ticket, but not FC Bayern. Now the obligation to do so is to be removed from the contract. The Greens in particular may have had a certain stomach ache. Because it is questionable whether the idea that the majority of fans will get the Deutschlandticket and will continue to travel by public transport in the future will work.
But city council circles say that this is basically the only way to cut costs in the coming season. According to the city council, the savings from the abolition of the MVV combined ticket are roughly the amount that the lions will have to bear in future in additional costs for the stadium.

But the exact calculation is a bit more complicated. Due to the disadvantages of the Grünwalder stadium compared to the stadiums of competing clubs, which 1860 managing director Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer had compiled in a so-called malus list, the cold rent actually fell – but only marginally, by 4,000 euros to 396,000 euros per year. On the other hand, the ancillary costs rose from 150,000 to 684,000 euros when the assessment office checked them, i.e. by 534,000 euros. This is what the TSV letter says.
The future MVV tax would have amounted to 572,000 euros, if it were to be eliminated, this would in fact almost be offset by the increase in ancillary costs. However, the obligation to buy a combination ticket due to the inner-city location is now off the malus list – which, according to reports, should increase the basic rent by around 200,000 euros. They called this amount Evening News, it coincides with SZ information. This means that the club will probably have to pay around 200,000 euros more in total rent than before, even if the MVV tax is no longer applicable.
The TSV 1860 should now worry about one thing in particular: He has to make it clear to his supporters that in future they will no longer be able to use their tickets as MVV tickets, but that the ticket price will not drop. A large proportion of the fans either come from outside the MVV area or from a catchment area that also makes it possible to travel by bike. However, anyone who lives in the outskirts of the MVV area, does not have a Germany ticket or another season ticket and travels by public transport will have to expect significantly higher costs for attending the games in the future.
