Ronald Pofalla was once a big hit in politics and on the railways. The man from the Lower Rhine was a member of the Bundestag, acted as CDU general secretary, was federal minister for “special tasks” and head of the federal chancellery in Angela Merkel’s time as head of government; and finally, as the infrastructure director of the state-owned company Deutsche Bahn (DB), to a certain extent master of the rail network. A little over half a year ago, Pofalla left the track prematurely and surprisingly. Since then it has become quiet around him.
