Former US President Trump has filed a request for bias against Judge Chutkan in the attempted election fraud trial against him. Trump claims that her previous statements raised doubts about her impartiality.

Former US President Donald Trump has filed a motion to disqualify US judge Tanya Chutkan. Chutkan is leading the federal trial into attempted election fraud, in which Trump is accused of wanting to retrospectively overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

Trump claims Chutkan’s previous statements cast doubt on her impartiality in the case. In recent months, the judge had already presided over several proceedings against people who were involved in the storming of the Capitol. She distinguished herself with particularly harsh judgments.

The judge had spoken of “blind loyalty”.

In one of the proceedings, she stated that the rioters had acted “in blind loyalty” to a person “who, by the way, is still at large today.” This reference to Trump, among other things, bothers the Republican and his defenders. Chutkan’s comment shows that she believes Trump “should be prosecuted and imprisoned.” Trump had already stated in August that he wanted to request that the judge be rejected.

The indictment in the case accuses him of conspiring with six other people to manipulate the results of the 2020 presidential election. Trump rejected the allegations. Chutkan set the trial to begin on March 4, 2024.
