Everything rots, rots, decomposes. Food leftovers on the streets, overflowing dumpsters, greasy puddles of rain, bicycles in the Tiber, a rat carcass in the ceiling of the Coliseum ticket booth. A fermentation process is underway, all of Rome is gripped by it. And then, on the night of March 4, 2016, a gruesome crime took place in a high-rise building in the Collatino neighborhood on the city’s eastern periphery.
