Turning point in the trial: Gil Ofarim surprises the court. He admits the allegations of slander and false suspicion and apologizes to the hotel manager.

The Jewish musician Gil Ofarim made a surprise confession in his trial for defamation and false suspicion.

“The allegations are true,” said the musician in front of the Leipzig regional court. He said to the hotel manager, who is acting as a co-plaintiff: “I would like to apologize to you.”

The case against Gil Ofarim has been dropped. The 41-year-old must pay a sum of 10,000 euros, said the presiding judge at the Leipzig Regional Court.

Ofarim made anti-Semitism allegations against a Leipzig hotel in a video in October 2021. The video went viral on social media. According to the Leipzig public prosecutor’s office, the incident did not happen that way. After extensive investigations, charges were brought against Ofarim. The case against the hotel manager was dropped. Ofarim said in court that he has now deleted the video.
