The trial of former Epstein confidante Maxwell has begun in New York. She is said to have helped the extremely wealthy investment banker abuse various young women and girls.

She doesn’t seem like a defendant. Ghislaine Maxwell is visually indistinguishable from her lawyers. The woman in the beige turtleneck looks active. Your eyes wander around. She writes eagerly, turning to her lawyers again and again. Whispers something to them. An old friend of the 59-year-old suspects: “She fights. Gives everything she has.”

Christopher Mason sits in the small auditorium and knows: “She has little to lose at the moment.” Maxwell’s sister Isabel also followed the prosecution’s pleading in the hall. Maxwell was Epstein’s “right hand” in the crimes, explains prosecutor Lara Pomerantz. And literally: “She hunted down unprotected young girls, manipulated them and served them for sexual abuse.”

Maxwell’s Defense: It’s about Epstein

Four main witnesses should prove it in the proceedings. Another woman sits in the stands who testifies to this in her book: Sarah Ransome was 22 when Epstein held her on his Caribbean island. If he wanted to abuse her, Maxwell called her, she tells the TV station CBS.

Ghislaine knew exactly what she was doing. She knew that every time she came for me, I would be raped. Every time.

Maxwell’s defense, however, insists that she is innocent. It’s about Epstein’s crime. Maxwell had nothing to do with it. Her former friend and employer was a narcissistic man. He manipulated the world around him – including Maxwell himself.

“Looks like she’s on trial to replace him”

Her defense attorneys think, like her friend Christopher Mason, “It looks like she’s on trial to replace him. The prosecution had no opportunity to get him there.”

The extremely wealthy investment banker allegedly committed suicide in his prison cell prior to his own trial. For years he is said to have abused mostly underage girls and women and to have given them as prostitutes to the rich and powerful.

Epstein’s mighty friends

The media presence in front of the courthouse was correspondingly large. The names of ex-presidents Trump or Clinton are being talked about as Epstein’s friends. Right up to the British Prince Andrew. While he is already facing civil proceedings, other celebrities are likely to hold their breath.

Alleged Epstein victims like Sarah Ransome, on the other hand, breathe a sigh of relief: “I had the hope that one day I would see the people in court who helped Jeffrey Epstein rape me every day.” You never believed that day would come.
