The singer Gil Ofarim has to answer in court in Leipzig. The musician posted a video of himself on social networks and made allegations of anti-Semitism against an employee of the Hotel Westin in Leipzig. The hotel denied the allegations.
The public prosecutor had investigated the case and found no evidence for Ofarim’s statements. The Leipzig Regional Court has now approved the prosecutor’s charge for a trial, as the court announced on Wednesday. Seven days of negotiations are planned. The charges against the musician are false suspicion and defamation. The court thus upheld the prosecutor’s charge on all counts.
Ofarim’s case has been stirring tempers in and outside of Saxony since October 2021. The public prosecutor had investigated the case and found no evidence for Ofarim’s statements.
