New benches, additional weather shelters or fresh paint: Deutsche Bahn has renovated around 1,000 stations at train stations across Germany.

At the end of the year, Deutsche Bahn will also conclude its train station modernization program. As already announced in November, the group has renovated around 1000 stations nationwide, as a spokeswoman announced.

They have been equipped with new bench seats, additional weather shelters or fresh paint. The railway has spent around 120 million euros from the federal government’s economic stimulus. The “Neue Westfälische” had previously reported (Wednesday).

“On average, we have renovated four train stations a day since the economic stimulus program began in May,” said Infrastructure Director Ronald Pofalla. “These stations are now brighter, friendlier, offer better comfort and more weather protection.” According to Deutsche Bahn, around 900 craft businesses across Germany benefited from the work.

In addition to this “immediate program for attractive train stations”, the federal government is financing other train station programs. In the next few years, a further 111 smaller and 50 medium-sized stations are to be redesigned to be barrier-free. The federal government has promised around 470 million euros for both projects.

Another program involves the modernization of small and medium-sized reception buildings. This work should be completed by 2026.
