The transfer of top scorer Sébastien Haller to Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund has now been formally completed.

As confirmed by BVB, the 28-year-old Ivorian will receive a contract until June 30, 2026. Haller had already completed the medical check-up on June 23, but his listed ex-club Ajax Amsterdam apparently asked that the change be made on June 1st. To be announced in July so that the transfer can be booked in the new financial year.

According to information from various media, the transfer fee is 31 million euros plus bonus payments. Haller is one of the most expensive footballers in club history. However, BVB received 75 million euros from Manchester City for Erling Haaland, whom Haller is to replace.

From 2017 to 2019, Haller successfully stormed for Eintracht Frankfurt and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League with the Hessians. He came to Ajax via West Ham United. Last season Haller was the top scorer in the Dutch league with 21 goals and led Ajax to the championship title. Born in France, he went through all the French junior teams before settling on the Ivory Coast senior team.

Haller is expected to join the team next weekend. “The overall package is very promising. Sébastien has a high level of physical presence, and he is also very resilient physically,” said Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl, according to the club’s announcement. “With his experience, he can give our young players support and stability on the offensive.”
