Transfer to Manchester United? Frenkie de Jong would rather stay at FC Barcelona

If Frenkie de Jong has his way, he will wear the FC Barcelona shirt again next season.

Frenkie de Jong wants to stay at FC Barcelona. The Dutch international explained that around which rumors of a change have been circulating for weeks. Among other things, the English record champions Manchester United are said to be interested in a transfer this summer. When asked about this, de Jong said ESPN: “I’d rather stay in Barcelona.”

Barca is his “dream club,” the 24-year-old continued: “It was like that when I was a kid and it hasn’t changed. I’ve never regretted my move here, even though I hoped we’d do more during that time win the title.”

De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for €86m. He had a mixed first season at the Blaugrana and often played in an unfamiliar position. He then showed decent performances, but without shining as before in Amsterdam. He made 139 appearances for Barca and won the Copa del Rey with the club.

With the Catalans in desperate need of cash, De Jong is one of a number of big-name players to who are allowed to leave the club. Alongside United, where his former promoter Erik ten Hag joins as team manager, he is also at Man City and Juventus in talks as a new signing.

De Jong was also traded at Bayern Munich.
