The US President is currently in a state of confusion when it comes to heads of state and government, but of course he knows what he has in Olaf Scholz. Most recently, Joe Biden briefly confused the dead with the living, spoke of “Mitterrand from Germany, I mean from France”, and actually he meant Emmanuel Macron. Then there was a conversation with Angela Merkel in 2021 in his memory with Helmut Kohl, who died in 2017, but he is of course still aware of the importance of his German guest.
