The police in Lower Saxony stopped a train at the weekend because of suspected explosives and arrested a 17-year-old. Now more is known about the suspect.

The 17-year-old from the Cologne area who was arrested in Hanover is suspected of having prepared an Islamist attack.

The public prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf announced on Monday that he was accused of having undergone appropriate training. The youth is being investigated on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence that is dangerous to the state. The suspect had been arrested for the time being.

Because of a suspicion of explosives, the federal police had searched a train in Wunstorf near Hanover with sniffer dogs for explosives. The suspicion was not confirmed, but around 100 passengers had to wait a good hour at the station on Saturday evening. A spokesman for the authorities said on Monday that there was no danger to the train or the passengers.
