Traffic obstructions: Massive traffic jams due to holiday traffic

Holidays end in the north and begin in the south – in many places this leads to heavy traffic and sometimes massive traffic jams. Construction sites, accidents and border controls exacerbate the traffic situation.

Holiday traffic has led to massive traffic jams in several parts of Germany and Austria.

Due to the start of the holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, according to the ÖAMTC automobile club, there was a total of around 60 kilometers of traffic jams on the 340-kilometer route from Munich to the Slovenian border at the Karawanken tunnel. There were massive delays in Tyrol, among other places.

Long delays to the south

According to the APA news agency, there were waiting times of one and a half to two hours at the Suben and Walserberg border crossings. When leaving for Slovenia on the A11 at the Karawanken tunnel, the waiting time was around two hours and towards Hungary on the A4 around 45 minutes. According to the information, German vacationers had been on their way south since the night hours.

Between Holzkirchen and the border with Austria, drivers sometimes drove from traffic jam to traffic jam. According to the real-time traffic monitoring of the automobile club ADAC, there were traffic jams of up to 24 kilometers. “It’s full, there have been accidents and there are controls at the border,” a police officer told Bavarian Broadcasting. A broken down vehicle is enough to cause long delays in tourist traffic. In several accidents on Saturday morning, no one was injured.

Return traffic through the end of vacation in SH and MV

There were also traffic obstructions in the north on the Autobahn 7 between Hanover and Hamburg. In the morning, the traffic management center reported 14 kilometers of stagnant traffic and a risk of congestion between the triangle Walsrode and Soltau-Süd due to high traffic density. There were also long traffic jams on Autobahn 1 from Bramsche coming from Bremen. In the opposite direction, traffic was jammed between Vechta and Neuenkirchen / Vörden.

The summer vacation ends this weekend in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein – in Hamburg next Wednesday. The return traffic is also noticeable here on the motorways. The traffic between Lübeck and Hamburg slows down for several kilometers, also on the A7 between Flensburg and Hamburg in front of the Elbe tunnel.
