When Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) symbolically breaks ground for a new 960-meter-long section of subway line 6 on the Martinsried campus next Monday, he will already be standing on a huge construction site. For months, earth has been removed from the edge of the science campus in order to temporarily store the enormous amounts of excavated material and to park heavy construction machinery. Hundreds of trees have been felled, and native rodents and birds have been laboriously and ingeniously relocated.
