Easter holidays after most corona restrictions have been lifted – there should be brisk activity on some motorways at times.

The ADAC expects significantly more travel over Easter than in the past two years.

School holidays are in all federal states except Hamburg, national trips are possible again, and there are hardly any corona restrictions: “Therefore, the traffic jam situation will be more tense than at the last two Easter festivals,” said the ADAC in Munich on request.

The high fuel price should hardly affect visits to relatives, excursions and short trips to ski resorts in the Alps or to the North and Baltic Seas. “Maundy Thursday was one of the five busiest days of the year in 2019, and this year too (April 14) commuters will be on their way home and drivers on their way to their families or relatives,” expects the ADAC. The club also expects a little more traffic on Easter Monday. On Easter Sunday, on the other hand, things should be quieter.

According to the experts, the following routes will be particularly affected: A1 Bremen – Hamburg and Dortmund – Cologne, A1/A3/A4 Kölner Ring, A3 Würzburg – Nuremberg – Passau, A5 Karlsruhe – Basel,
A6 Mannheim – Heilbronn – Nuremberg, A7 Hanover – Flensburg and Würzburg – Ulm – Füssen/Reutte, A8 Stuttgart – Munich – Salzburg,
A9 Nuremberg – Munich, A10 Berliner Ring, A61 Mönchengladbach – Koblenz – Ludwigshafen, A81 Stuttgart – Singen, A93 Inntal triangle – Kufstein, A95/B2 Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen and
A99 bypass Munich.

Easter vacationers should also allow for delays on classic international routes. These include the West, Tauern and Brenner autobahns in Austria and the Gotthard route in Switzerland. There should not be delays of more than 30 minutes at the main border crossings when entering or leaving the country.
