There was a lot going on in the garden of the White House in Washington on Easter Monday. Joe Biden and his wife Jill invited hundreds of children to an Easter egg roll.

Long tradition in the White House: US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill once again received hundreds of children to roll Easter eggs in the garden of the government headquarters. In bright sunshine on Monday, families gathered on the south lawn in front of the US President’s official residence.

Biden called Easter a time of hope, love and renewal. “Anything is possible in America,” said the 80-year-old on the south balcony of the White House, where he appeared with the First Lady – accompanied by two Easter bunnies.

First held in the White House garden in 1878 under then-President Rutherford Hayes, Easter Egg Rolling has been an institution in the US government headquarters calendar ever since. It is a tradition of the event that children compete to roll hard-boiled eggs across the lawn with long spoons. There are also various other games and activities for younger visitors.

This time, the South Lawn in front of the White House was transformed into a school of sorts with educational activities. Biden’s wife Jill is a teacher and always puts education at the center of her work.
