Town twinning: How towns maintain friendship – Bavaria

Town twinnings are dissolved again and again. Has the concept become obsolete? Not at all, they find in Marktheidenfeld in Lower Franconia – and celebrate the victory of cordiality over hatred.

Well-maintained town twinnings like the one between Marktheidenfeld in Franconia and Montfort in France, aren’t they a matter of course? You might think so, but maybe you don’t quite have cases like the one in Friedberg in Hesse on your radar. A letter from the British Bishop’s Stortford arrived there a good ten years ago, only a sparse page, but worded anything but unfriendly. The British mayor told his German colleague that he was “aware” that the disappointment could be great. But it is now the way it is: it has been decided to end the partnership between the cities.
