Everything is getting more expensive, but very few people want to go without a vacation. As an alternative to flights and hotels, traveling and sleeping on your own is more popular than ever. With 9.3 million overnight stays in August 2022, caravanning and camping were 14.7 percent higher than in August 2019. Despite supply bottlenecks, more than 60,000 mobile homes were newly registered in the current year. Holidaymakers with motorhomes and caravans brought around 15 billion euros in sales to the German tourist regions last year, and the trend is rising. But tourism capacities are not growing to the same extent. In other words: It’s getting tight at popular destinations by the sea and in the mountains.
