“Germany’s Next Top Model”: “We looked like something out of a horror film”

At a castle, in Las Vegas, on the beach or in Uschi’s corner bar – brides and grooms have different ideas about where they would like to get married. In episode eleven of “Germany’s Next Top Model” Heidi Klum shows another wedding location on Thursday evening. But you have to like it. Emotions would be good too. And breathing air.

If you hear the terms “wedding” and “Germany’s Next Top Model” in the same sentence, then the finale of the 14th season still gives GTNM connoisseurs goosebumps on the amygdala. Because the candidate’s marriage there Theresa Fischer and her then fiancé with a cuddly toy as witnesses, Heidi Klum as the wedding officiant and Thomas Gottschalk as the ring adjutant was well over the top, even for the model search show, which was never short on odd moments.

More news about “Germany’s Next Top Model”

Five years and seasons later, the pictures from back then have just been forgotten when Heidi Klum wants to renew this disastrous alliance between the wedding and “Germany’s Next Top Model”. Klum carefully introduces this idea to her models, or as Mare puts it in the model villa: “Guys, golden envelope!” “I’m excited to see how my models will react to today’s task,” says Klum happily in the voiceover as he unpacks the task.

Who wants to be in the picture with Lucas?

Elsewhere people are more skeptical and want more independence. “Not any more decisions that we have to make ourselves,” says Kadidja, fearing too much self-determination. But it’s coming, at least a little. There will be a physically demanding couple shoot, with the following Klum’s request: “I want to see it crackle between you and feel the chemistry.” You can choose your partners yourself. An important detail, as it turned out, especially for Lucas.

He has very specific ideas about the shoot and his partner, but they don’t really hear them. “Can’t we be a little more considerate?” Lucas asks himself, while the group process seems to envisage Mare as Lucas’ partner – which she in turn vehemently rejects. She had already taken photos of Lucas and encountered a problem: “The way he poses doesn’t fit my aesthetic.” “We felt sorry for Lucas,” reveals Xenia about Mare’s refusal. She, in turn, sees the matter from the following perspective: “Why should I send myself to shit?”

Finally, out of a mixture of defiance and anger, Mare gives in and accepts Lucas as a shooting partner. “It would have been hotter if I had a woman at my side who said: Okay, I’d like to shoot with you,” Lucas agrees, and so the two of them put an end to the excitement. But this deferment and refusal is interesting for two reasons: firstly because of the dramaturgical structure of the episode and secondly because everyone involved cannot yet suspect that the problem should come from a completely different side.

Between confidence and an ass card

“We’ll still rock it,” says Lucas confidently – a mistake. Because Heidi Klum has planned an underwater shoot for this episode. There is a huge water tank that is decorated with all sorts of wedding items. Not because they still had that left over from Theresia, but because the candidates first have to put on their wedding clothes and then simulate a wedding ceremony underwater, while a photographer captures this underwater marriage for the model portfolio. But Klum doesn’t throw the models into the proverbial deep end, instead she lets everyone train in the hotel pool beforehand and the training should reveal an interesting detail.

For example with Mare: “I’m a little worried about Mare,” Klum suspects something ominous and in fact the 22-year-old brings a small handicap with her into the pool: “I can’t hold my breath.” This is actually quite a hindrance for an underwater shoot, so Lucas takes the lead in training. “She has no other choice,” Klum states as Lucas Mare heaves powerfully under the water. Because he apparently does it at a right angle, there are even a few successful test photos. “I’m so grateful to be on a team with you,” says Mare happily at the end of the day.

After another evening training session, Lucas isn’t so sure anymore: “I’d say I pulled the bad card,” says Lucas, summing up the rather anxiety-filled training and going into the shoot the next day somewhat worried. But these two shouldn’t be the only couples having underwater shooting difficulties. Armin and And if not, at some point the competition will be very, very tired.

“Why didn’t I get another partner?”

But Jermaine and Maximilian and of course Lucas and Mare turned out to be problem couples, so the editing had been careful beforehand. Jermaine and Maximilian’s performance is probably based on a misunderstanding about the requirements: “We were down!” Maximilian is happy about the performance, but Klum had imagined slightly higher requirements: “We want to see love, little hearts in our eyes , Wedding!” Accordingly, Klum’s verdict is: “Your emotions were lacking.”

Mare and Lucas, however, had plenty of emotions. Frustration, for example. “As soon as it went underwater, I just panicked. Instantly,” Mare summarizes the shoot and says: “I just had a panic attack.” Psychology icon Klum immediately has a tip at hand: “She’s very hectic, she needs to calm down a bit.” The shoot went accordingly, which Lucas summarized as follows: “We looked like something out of a horror film.” A result that clearly affects Lucas: “Why didn’t I get another partner?” Hopefully a rhetorical question, if not he should just watch episode eleven. This is explained at the beginning.

But there are also positive things, for example with Lea and Luka. “I’ll let the cat out of the bag – you were the best,” Klum announces after their shoot, but that’s not enough for Luka. “I still have one question,” Luka says, and no, he doesn’t want to know why Klum puts a cat in a bag or who will look after the animal now that the cat is free again. No, Luka wants to know: “Does that mean we’re further along or not?” That’s exactly what it says. For Mare and Maximilian, however, there is no cat, not even a sack and what is much more important: no photo either.
