Tour de France – Stage 10 live in the ticker: Chance for escape – Next attack by Pogacar on Vingegaard?

On the 10th stage of the Tour de France 2023, the riders can look forward to a section with classic paintwork after the rest day: Although there are no mountain giants on the plan, there is a constant up and down through the central massif to the finish.

The peloton has to climb over 3,000 meters in altitude and five categorized climbs on the way from Vulcania to Issoire. This makes the tenth stage perfect for a breakaway group. However, since after the last climb to the Côte de La Chapelle-Marcousse it is almost all downhill towards the finish, riders with qualities in the descent have a good chance of winning the stage in the final.

2:28 p.m. – Küng does most of the work with the dependents

Stefan Küng is the man who does the mammoth part in the second field with the left Gaudu and Bardet. The Swiss gives everything and keeps the gap to the first field constant at two minutes. The hope that things will calm down again and that we will come back again is still there.

2:25 p.m. – Still no peace in the field

The seven frontrunners have a 35-second lead over the field, but behind them various drivers repeatedly fail to break away and drive forward.

2:20 p.m. – Gaudu and Bardet already 2:25 minutes behind

The second large field of drivers around the two French hopefuls in the overall classification is already more than two minutes behind the favorite field with Pogacar and Vingegaard as well as Rodriguez, Pidcock, the Yates brothers, Hindley, Buchmann and Co.

2:15 p.m. – Septet with Zimmermann breaks away

The next attack and Zimmermann is there again! Seven men break away with 127 kilometers to go.

2:11 p.m. – Zimmermann leads the quintet to the front

Five riders dropped out of the field, including the German Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty). The quintet closes in a wave to the top with Mohoric and Alaphilippe. But as I write this, the field is on again.

2:07pm – Alaphilippe and Mohoric break away

In the technical descent from the Col de Guéry, Matej Mohoric and Julian Alaphilippe pulled away from the peloton. The duo now has a ten second lead. But there is no peace behind it.

2:00 p.m. – hell speed in the favorite field

Different teams are now going full throttle in the peloton because they want to distance Gaudu and Bardet as far as possible. The field catches up with Krists Neilands and Wout Poels at the top of the Col de Guéry, so there are no more breakaways, but there is only a first field of around 60 men. The second large group with Bardet is already 1:40 minutes behind! In between there are still a few scattered drivers with Gaudu and also mountain jersey wearer Powless.

13:57 – Black day for the French! Gaudu also falls behind

There are still 142 kilometers to the finish, two to the mountain prize at Col de Guéry – and now the second French hopeful has to say goodbye: David Gaudu (Groupama – FDJ) falls behind.

1:53 p.m. – Jumbo continues full throttle, Bardet behind

Jumbo – Visma continues to lead the peloton at high speed to control exactly who gets to break away. The horrendous speed hurts more and more drivers, the peloton is shrinking rapidly – and now even Romain Bardet (DSM – Firmenich), who is tenth overall, is having problems. Bardet falls back from the field!

1:50 p.m. – One attack after another

We are in the long climb to the Col de Guéry (3rd cat.), which ends with 139 kilometers to go. Five men have broken away again, led by Michal Kwiatkowski (Ineos Grenadiers).

1:48 p.m. – Everyone back together!

With 146 kilometers to go, we have a closed peloton again. Jumbo – Visma has brought back the leading group. And by no means a closed peloton: Some sprinters are of course already left behind at the high speed and uphill.

1:45 p.m. – Meintjes the greatest danger in the group

The most dangerous man in the overall standings within the leading group is Louis Meintjes (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty), who is 12th overall, 8:50 minutes behind yellow. Everyone else up there is more than 29 minutes behind in the overall standings.

1:43 p.m. – The madness is over for now

Pogacar, Vingegaard and company are back in the peloton with Jumbo – Visma moving up and taking control – 25 seconds off the top 13.

1:41 p.m. – 13 men break away, calm returns

13 riders have broken away from the Pogacar-Vingegaard group. They will now probably form the breakaway for the day, while the top 5 contenders who were up front now slow down and are likely to be caught by the peloton soon.

1:37 p.m. – Brilliant start!

15 kilometers have now been done and we have 22 front runners with Pogacar, Vingegaard, Simon Yates, Adam Yates, Bardet, Majka and Kuss in the lead – 45 seconds ahead of the peloton where Ineos and Bora set the pace. Who would have thought today?

1:34 p.m. – Bora and Ineos are going full throttle in the peloton

The Pogacar-Vingegaard-Yates group has almost caught up with the front of the race – only five seconds behind. But already 40 seconds ahead of the main field, where Bora – hansgrohe and Ineos Grenadiers set the pace. Because Jai Hindley and Carlos Rodriguez as well as Tom Pidcock are not there at the front.

1:30 p.m. – UAE attack with Pogacar!

UAE goes full throttle over the crest of the mountain prize with three men, including Tadej Pogacar! There is a gap, but Jonas Vingegaard and Simon Yates are there immediately.

1:24 p.m. – Seven drivers break away

Less than five kilometers have been driven and seven men have now broken away – initiated by Krists Neilands (Israel – Premier Tech).

1:18 p.m. – There are attacks immediately!

Kilometer 0 has happened and the race is on – and immediately it’s uphill towards the first mountain prize in the 3rd category at the Col de la Moreno. Immediately after the sharp start, attacks rained down.

1:12 p.m. – 169 riders still at the start

As tough as the first week of the Tour was, only seven riders have bowed out so far. 169 men make up the peloton today on the 10th stage.

1:05 p.m. – The tour rolls again!

Exactly at 1 p.m. and 5 minutes the peloton starts the second week in Vulcania. 7.8 kilometers of neutralization open up this 10th stage, which could be something for breakaways.

Tour de France: The weather forecast

This Wednesday, the peloton faces a mix of 24 to hot 33 degrees. Heavy thunderstorms are forecast on the way through the volcanic plain in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The chance of rain is 67%.
