Long fight
Little boy beats cancer: his mother shares the story

Beckett spent countless days in the hospital before conquering cancer

At the age of only four, little Beckett was diagnosed with cancer. His mother shares a picture on Facebook that goes viral on the net. Now Beckett has finally beaten cancer.

A young boy in diapers is hunched over the toilet he has just vomited into. His sister is standing next to him and has put a comforting hand on his back. Kaitlin Burge posted this photo of her children on Facebook in September 2019. Her son Beckett was diagnosed with cancer when he was just four years old. After a good three years of fighting, he has finally won it.

Photo of the sick boy went viral

In April 2018, the little Texas boy’s family was diagnosed with leukemia. As a result, his mother Kaitlin started the Facebook page “Beckett Srong”, on which she reported about her son’s illness. Beckett has to endure blood transfusions and chemotherapy, often struggling with nausea and pain. His family stands by him during the difficult times – especially his one year older sister Aubrey, who always stays by his side. This is also the case in the picture that mother Kaitlin shares on Facebook. The touching photo of the siblings moves countless people and goes viral on the Internet.

That too: Beckett gets Corona

After three years of therapy and countless hospital stays, the mother finally announces the unbelievable news: Beckett has won the battle against cancer! He will be able to lead a healthy life again. But before Beckett’s treatment can be finished, he has another challenge ahead of him: He will test positive for Corona. Fortunately, he survived the virus without symptoms, as mother Kaitlin reports on Facebook.

He’s finally conquering cancer

On October 15th, the doctors can finally perform the last necessary operation to remove the boy’s port catheter. This is a permanent access through which the patient can receive medication. Beckett’s treatment at Children’s Medical Center Plano in Texas is now officially complete. “You did it” writes mother Kaitlin on Facebook, “there is nothing he cannot do!” The little boy can finally go back to school and continue his baseball training. “He had to abandon his childhood to have a chance in life,” said the mother. Now Beckett can be a child again.
