This weekend, heavy rains fell on the famous American festival in the Nevada desert.
THE Burning Man turned into a huge quagmire after torrential rain this week-end.
An annual gathering that is both a celebration of the counterculture and a spiritual retreat created in 1986 in San Francisco, the festival moved in the 1990s to Black Rock, a protected desert area to the northwest of Nevada.
A festival-goer died “during this episode of heavy rain” but not because of it, said a Nevada State Police spokesman.

On site, tens of thousands of festival-goers are confronted with the dilemma to stay under the tent in the heart of an immense mud field or set off on foot on roads that have become almost impassable. They were 70,000 on the site at the time of the bad weather.
For their part, the organizers invite them to stay under the shelter of their tents. They nevertheless urge those leaving to leave the premises intact, in accordance with the spirit of the event.
Participants seeking to escape the immense quagmire that the site has become must nevertheless travel nearly ten kilometers to reach the nearest road.
