Tim Raue would like to find out what the world tastes like in six episodes of his new travel format “Herr Raue travels! This is how the world tastes”. Istanbul kicks off. There he eats the best burger of his life in a kebab shop.

Does the kebab in Istanbul taste the same as the one in Berlin-Kreuzberg? What do you actually eat in Phuket? And how does pasta taste in Sicily? In his new travel report “Herr Raue travels! This is how the world tastes”, which can be seen on Telekom’s Magenta TV streaming platform from Thursday, Raue examines precisely these questions.

“Most of what we sell as Spanish, Chinese or Croatian has little to do with the real cuisine of these countries,” says Tim Raue, star chef who was recently voted 31st of the best 50 restaurants in the world with his restaurant . Read more about it here.

Tim Raue is a street food junkie

Despite the corona crisis, Raue and his team manage to put together a travel report. In Phuket and New Orleans, they are among the first European travelers since the pandemic. In Mexico City they need personal protection and eat at the markets, although this is always strongly advised against. Raue is a street food junkie and loves authentic insights into the world’s kitchens. “I’m actually really shy,” says Raue. “I would never ask if I can look into a kitchen, the editorial team helps me and opens doors.”

His first trip takes him to Istanbul. There he not only meets the top chefs, but also has the food shown from the street. For example, a simple burger that he eats in a kebab shop and is voted the best burger of his life. Or kokoreç, a dish made from chopped offal with sheep and goat, wrapped in intestines. The Istanbulers swear by it, Raue is not so sure: “I don’t actually eat ass.” But in the end he lets himself be persuaded and is enthusiastic about the taste. Except for the very end, when “a breath of ass is over”, he would have liked to save himself that.

The first episode will be available exclusively on Magenta TV on Thursday, October 28th at 5 p.m.
