They lurk in the forest, field and garden: ticks can transmit dangerous pathogens through their bites. But what to do against the advance of infectious bloodsuckers?

fever up to 39 degrees, head and Body aches: The first signs of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) transmitted by a tick bite are often unspecific. In contrast to summer flu, the symptoms disappear for up to a third of those infected with TBE for a while before they come back with a second flare-up. The fever then rises to 40 degrees, the brain, spinal cord and meninges (the eponymous meninges) can become inflamed, and neurological deficits occur. These can persist for several weeks and months after the infection has been overcome.
