Reading makes you strong: Queen Camilla has opened a new library at a primary school in London as part of her Coronation project.

Since the coronation at the side of her husband, King Charles III. (75), Queen sits down Camilla (76) in Great Britain advocates for primary school children to read more. She has now opened the new school library at Moreland Primary School in the London district of Islington. She told the students in attendance that reading would open doors for them and make a “big difference” in their lives.

The royal family posted photos of the ceremonial opening on Instagram. During her visit to the primary school, Camilla took part in both an interactive story time with young librarians from schools across the city and a mini-reading by children’s author Joseph Coelho. The Waterstones Children’s Laureate laureate recited his poem “One Thousand Libraries” in the new reading room. During her visit, the Queen also listened to the stories of British-Sierra Leonean rapper and storyteller Alim Kamara, founder of the storytelling company Storie Storie, in the school auditorium.

Camilla encourages students to read

According to a report in the British newspaper “Independent” Camilla gave encouraging words to the children present: “The more books you read, the more you will learn.” The elementary school students should consider themselves lucky to have such a beautiful library. “It’s so important to keep reading and I think a library like this makes a huge difference for all of you here.”

With the coronation, Queen Camilla launched the Coronation Libraries Project. This project saw new library spaces installed in 50 primary schools across the UK. The focus was on communities that struggle with low reading and writing rates.

The new library at Moreland Elementary School is now equipped with 300 new books. These include, among others, the Chase Coronation Collection, consisting of 23 children’s books that were voted the best children’s books by elementary school students for the coronation in 2023.
