Despite losses, the AfD remains the strongest force

According to a current MDR survey, the AfD has lost support in Thuringia, but remains the strongest party in the country. It currently stands at 29 percent. That’s five percentage points less than that last survey in July 2023.

According to the Thuringia trend, which Infratest Dimap collected on behalf of the MDR, the CDU is in second place with 20 percent (minus 1). The left follows with 16 percent (minus 4) and is only just ahead BSW. The Wagenknecht party achieved 15 percent from a standing start. It is overtaking the SPD, which has nine percent (minus 1). With five percent (unchanged), the Greens would just about make it into the state parliament. The FDP would no longer be represented in the state parliament with less than three percent.

Forming a government would continue to be difficult because neither the red-red-green coalition nor any other coalition currently in practice in Germany would have a majority.
