Throwing an explosive device at the LGBT center, the sixth attack in 2023

The LGBTI center in Touraine is once again the target of violence. “This afternoon in Tours, the LGBTI center suffered an explosive device launch,” the Indre-et-Loire prefecture said on Twitter on Monday.

While two employees and a volunteer were inside the premises, according to the new republic, the attack around 3:30 p.m. caused no injuries. “The prefect of Indre-et-Loire went there, he strongly condemns this new act of violence and supports the center,” said the prefecture.

“A milestone has been reached”

According to the environmental deputy of Tours Charles Fournier, this is the “sixth time in a few months” that the LGBTI Touraine center has been the victim of “acts of intimidation”. “A milestone was crossed with the jet of an explosive device comprising acid and aluminum thrown in the middle of the afternoon in the offices (…)”, added the deputy.

Attacks against LGBT + people increased by 3% in 2022 compared to 2021, with more than 4,000 incidents recorded, mostly defamation or insults, according to a study published on May 17 by the statistical service of the Ministry of the Interior. The government plans to present “before the summer” a plan to better fight against this violence.
