Three years in prison and a fine of 100,000 euros were required this Wednesday against the influence of Lyon Sophie Fantasy. Judged alongside thirteen other defendants, the youtuber with a million subscribers – who features her children Neo and Swan in her videos – is being prosecuted for fraud in an organized gang, abuse of weakness or even moral harassment.
She is accused of having defrauded 340 victims, between 2010 and 2014, through a Eurochallenge marriage agency that she co-managed with her companion, reports Progress. The damage is estimated at two million euros.
Disenchantment
The company, created in Lyon in the 1990s, promised its customers to find their future wives from Asia, Africa or the East. She asked them, first, to pay in order to discover their photos. But on the spot, the members found promises very different from the women shown on the pictures sent. Not to mention the “all-expenses-paid” trip that was finally billed to them without any possibility of being reimbursed under penalty of being visited by a bailiff.
The prosecutor also requested a four-year prison sentence against the spouse of Sophie Fantasy and the son of the founder of the marriage agency.
