Three injured in fire at CHU

The fire started during the night from Friday to Saturday in a patient’s room. Three people treated at Limoges University Hospital were injured, including one seriously burned, in this fire, we learned from the hospital and the Haute-Vienne prefecture. Around 2:30 a.m., the fire started in “a patient’s room, in the digestive surgery department” on the 2nd floor of one of the buildings, management said in a press release.

This patient, a 53-year-old man, rescued “in absolute emergency” by the firefighters, was transferred to the burns department of the Bordeaux University Hospital. The two other injured patients were in “relative emergency” at midday, according to the prefecture. The Minister of Health, Aurélien Rousseau, is expected on site at 3 p.m.

The activity of the CHU “is not affected”

The fire was quickly brought under control thanks to the intervention of the hospital security team and around forty firefighters. The patients in the department affected by the fire were transferred to another care department, adds the management of the CHU, whose continuity of activity “is not affected”.

The origin of the incident is not known at this stage. The premises are closed and are not accessible to the technical and scientific police due to the asbestos present in the building. “The investigation cannot begin at this time,” the prefecture was informed.
