Thomas Brail, the defender of trees on hunger strike, urgently hospitalized

After twelve days of hunger strike to demand the suspension of the construction site the A69 motorway between Castres and Toulouse, Thomas Brail was treated this Tuesday morning by the firefighters for “acute chest pain”. The creator of the National Tree Surveillance Group (GNSA) was perched in a tree, 12 meters high, in front of the regional hotel in Toulouse. “He was in a bad state. It was he who called the firefighters,” says “Jibon”, “the squirrel” who was perched with him. “Basically, he didn’t want to come down. A negotiator from the fire service managed to change his mind,” continues the activist. According to him, Thomas Brail has no history of heart disease.

Other activists from the La Voie Est Libre (LVEL) collective have joined Tarnais in its hunger strike in recent days. While tree felling has resumed, at night and under police protection, along the route of the future A69, opponents are calling for a moratorium on the work, time to purge legal appeals and a televised debate with the promoters of the project.

Their presence before the Regional Council aims in particular to challenge Carole Delga (PS), president of Occitanie and in favor of the highway.
