SCIENCE – The adage ” never two without three “ was taken to the extreme. Scientists from two German universities studied the case of a German who said he received, not one, not two, but… 217 doses of vaccine against Covid, over 29 months. Just that. Their results were published this Monday March 4 in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases.

But what happened to this 62-year-old man from the town of Magdeburg? The authorities did not realize the number of doses received because the sixty-year-old presented himself at different vaccination centers without a health insurance card. He wanted to obtain as many certificates as injections to resell them to refractory people, explains BFMTVwhich relays a article from a German newspaper.

It is therefore through the press that scientists hear about this story. They then invited him to come and take tests at the University of Erlangen to evaluate the effects of this hypervaccination on immunity. The researchers specify, in a article published on the university’s website, that only 134 doses of vaccine could be officially confirmed.

More T cells

The individual then took several blood samples. Scientists were also able to study some of the sixty-year-old’s blood samples taken and then frozen in recent years, as part of other tests. The man even received a final dose from the researchers, at his request.

According to some scientific theories, excess vaccinations make immune cells less effective because they have become accustomed to the antibodies. But this was not the case for this German, according to the researchers.

After analyzing these samples, scientists found that the person studied had a large number of T cells, whose role is to fight against SARS-COV-2, the virus responsible for Covid. She even had more than the control group made up of people who received three doses. And the cells are equally effective in both cases.

As for the number of memory cells, “it was as high in our test group as in the control group”, explains Katharina Kocher, one of the main authors of the study. The effectiveness of the immune system against other pathogens also did not change, according to other analyses. And scientists found no evidence of past SARS-COV-2 infection.

No scientific conclusions

“We did not find any indication of a weaker immune response, quite the contrary. In addition, even the 217th vaccination that the man received during the study had an effect: the number of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 increased significantly,” Katharina pointed.

But scientists completely disapprove of this hypervaccination. This case being individual, it absolutely does not allow any scientific conclusions to be drawn or recommendations to be made.. Kilian Schober, another author, recalls that “Current research indicates that a three-dose vaccination, combined with regular complementary vaccines for vulnerable groups, remains the preferred approach”. Before insisting: “There is no indication that we need to increase the number of vaccines “.

A judicial investigation was opened against this man for allegations of fraud, but no criminal action has been taken so far.
