This fruit helps against type 2 diabetes

In many cases, type 2 diabetes can be stopped with the right lifestyle. A certain type of fruit can help.

Around nine million people in Germany suffer from diabetes. Most of them suffer from type 2 diabetes, which can be genetic but is mainly caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise and a balanced diet can help to improve the clinical picture and reduce secondary diseases.

As a study showed, a certain type of fruit can have a positive effect on blood sugar levels and also reduce the risk of diabetes.

Study: Diabetics should eat this fruit more often

US researchers had evaluated data from three clinical studies. In these studies, patients with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes ate between 100 and 250 grams of raspberries daily in addition to their regular meals for up to eight weeks.

prediabetes is a preliminary stage of type 2 diabetes, in which the sugar metabolism is already disturbed, but no symptoms have yet to appear. If left untreated, prediabetes leads to overt type 2 diabetes within four years in almost 40 percent of those affected. Within ten years, the risk even increases to up to 50 percent.

The result: Compared to the control group, the participants showed an improvement in many parameters that make up type 2 diabetes. Insulin sensitivity improved, causing blood sugar levels to drop. Certain inflammatory markers in the blood also decreased over the long term.
