The Diakonisches Werk Passau is insolvent. But the work has not decreased. “My desk is exploding,” says executive board member Sabine Aschenbrenner. Insolvency proceedings will be opened at the beginning of February, which the diaconal work can carry out “in self-administration” according to the court order. That means it should get itself out of trouble with the help of advisors. An enormous task. “We are turning the whole house, all services and advice centers inside out,” says Aschenbrenner. Where can money be saved, where synergies can be used or collaborations entered into? Or do you have to part with offers? Nothing has been decided yet, says Aschenbrenner. “But one thing is certain: things won’t continue as before.”
