they use a fire hydrant to fill a swimming pool in the middle of the street

All means are good for cooling off during this very hot week and some are more daring than others. Progress reveals that the inhabitants of the Parilly district, in Bron (Rhône), have gone so far as to install a swimming pool in the middle of the street. For a few hours, around thirty people took advantage of a moment of respite from the scorching temperatures.

However, urban swimmers have tapped into city water by forcing a fire hydrant, which is an illegal act. The police therefore intervened, around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, to put an end to this urban swimming.

Street-pooling (the practice of opening fire hydrants to cool off) can be very dangerous, particularly because of the water pressure. It requires the intervention of firefighters to close the terminal.
