A neighbor had offered to give her a ride in her car that morning. But Raquel Gómez refused and took the train into the city. On the way her friend Bea got on board. Shortly after the doors of the carriage closed again at Atocha station, the bomb exploded. She tore off Raquel’s left leg and splinters penetrated her stomach. Bea, who had been standing next to her, died instantly.
