These are the songs and candidates

In this country, the search for candidates for the preliminary round is in full swing. Germany recently had little luck with its artists at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), who often ended up in last place. This is why calls for a new selection process have been made again and again. Now Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR), which is responsible for the German ESC contribution, has delivered. Here we give the most important answers to the singing competition.

The preliminary decision “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2024” will take place live in Berlin on February 16th. There the candidates present their songs and compete against each other. At the end, the winner will be chosen, who will compete for Germany at the ESC in Malmö.

The show will be live on eurovision.de from 10:05 p.m ARD media library and sent in the first. A total of nine artists will compete there. Barbara Schöneberger will moderate the live show.

These nine artists are taking part in the live show “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2024”.

There are two ways artists can get into the German ESC finals. In the first option, singers and bands were able to apply online. Overall, according to the website Eurovision Song Contest more than 690 artists applied. Most applicants had their own song with them, but this was not a requirement.

15 acts were selected in advance from all of these songs. But the path to the final is not yet certain, but the artists have already overcome one hurdle. Afterwards, the 15 will go to a boot camp with two well-known stars – Rea Garvey and Conchita Wurst, who won the ESC in 2014. In a six-part docutainment series “I want to go to the ESC!” the acts compete against each other.

The show is actually very entertaining. And the coaches Conchita Wurst and Rea Garvey played a big part in this. The duo comes across as extremely likeable, chats freely here and there and is as honest as they are attentive in their assessments. They work harmoniously and you can and want to laugh a lot with them.

Viewers can watch the talents develop and the challenges they face under the guidance of the coaches five broadcasts online and follow along on television. After recording the first episodes, Rea Garvey was surprised by the potential of the talent. For him, the show was initially intended primarily as good entertainment, he said. “The fact that we’ve now gone through the process and know that we have a really good chance of being the winners of this show, that’s exciting. I was not expecting that.”

Candidates recently appeared in the live show of “I want to go to the ESC!” measured on February 8th. The ninth and last free place for the preliminary round was awarded by the audience via tele and online voting. The singer Floryan won against Anne Im and Luca M. Wefes and will try to get his ticket to the ESC on February 16th.

The second possibility: The NDR, for its part, addressed artists. All songs were then evaluated by the ESC editorial team. 32 acts remained, which were judged anonymously by an international jury of experts. In a live audition, the singers were finally allowed to “present their ESC suitability live,” it says eurovision.de.

It is important to know that NDR is giving away all but one of the seats for the live show on February 16th. This one place goes to the winner of the boot camp, Floryan. The other eight starting positions had already been determined.
