These are the six biggest dangers in everyday life

1. ​Smoking

Cigarettes are the number one killer. Nationwide, smoking is responsible for around one in five cases of cancer. The proportion is even higher for lung, throat, esophageal and bladder cancer. And lung cancer is often fatal – not just for the smoker himself. In Germany alone, 3,000 people die of cancer every year due to passive smoking.

So, put away your cigarette!

2. Overweight

Many people don’t know the connection between obesity and cancer, but it has been proven for years. The list of types of cancer in which obesity probably plays a role is getting longer and longer. The influence is great on malignant tumors of the uterus, kidneys and liver. It’s not just obesity that is considered a risk factor – slim people with a lot of belly fat also have an increased risk of cancer.

3. Poor diet

Anyone who eats a lot of processed meat – such as sausages or ham – increases their risk of colon cancer. High meat and salt consumption can also cause cancer. Fiber, fruit and non-starchy vegetables, on the other hand, are part of a balanced diet.

4. Too little exercise/sport

If you don’t exercise enough, your risk of cancer increases dramatically. Physical activity reduces the risk of colon and breast cancer – and many other types of cancer. Fitness has a protective effect.

5. Alcohol

The combination of alcohol and smoking is particularly dangerous. One glass of wine or beer is enough to slightly but demonstrably increase the risk of certain types of cancer.

6. Too much UV radiation

Sunburns are the main risk factor for black skin cancer – 90 percent of all melanomas are caused by them. Therefore, it is extremely important to avoid sunburns. Children and people with light skin and red hair need special protection.
